Fragment of the tail of a US military 250kg bomb

The photo on the left was identified as a fragment of the tail of a 250 kg bomb of the US Army dropped in Kikai-cho, Oshima-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture during the 1945 Pacific War. Location: Nakazato, Kikai Town, Kagoshima Prefecture (received in April 2019)

Kagoshima Navy Air Base Reinforcing bars and outer wall nails used in the hangar

The hangar of Kagoshima Navy Air Base, which had escaped the destruction of the 1945 air raid, has since become owned by a private bus company.

However, it was to be dismantled in 2008 due to problems such as maintenance costs due to aging, and at that time it was received from a dismantling contractor worker at the site (Masagohonmachi, Kagoshima City). After dismantling, it is used as a parking lot. The photo on the right shows the screw (right) from the foundation on the right hand side of the front of the hangar and the nail that fixed the roof and outer wall. (Obtained in October 2008)

History seen in the "History Table" of the former Navy

In the foldable military history table, you can see the word "Kansei", which can be said to be a letter of appreciation for participating in the attack on Pearl Harbor (at that time, an aircraft carrier: Zuikaku's mechanic). Actually, it is printed on thin paper such as paraffin paper and glued. It is presumed that it is like a proof as a martial art, equal to the soldiers involved.

This history table contains the current address of the person, the date of shooting training, the history of being placed on the ship, etc. It seems that this history was to be filled in and stamped by the squad leader. Pre-war ordinary elementary school textbook

What is called a national textbook before the end of the Pacific War. It is a real thing to know what kind of content the children were educated at that time. The battlefield scene was drawn on the open page in the foreground. No criticism was allowed, only what was written was considered "truth." The photos are "Elementary School Japanese Language Reader, Vol. 6 for Normal Course" and "Regular Elementary School, Vol. 3 for Children", both published in 1936, published by the Ministry of Education, and printed by Osaka Books Co., Ltd. This volume 6 summarizes the story from the anecdote of Emperor Jimmu to Marshal Togo. The light blue cover of the moral book is designed to instill morality and patriotism, such as behaviour, grace, honesty, and patriotism. (Donated by Mr. Kamitsuru, Aira City, November 2019)
